The 5 Best Dog Crates
A crate should give a dog room to stand, turn and lie down, not simply match a breed chart. Measure your dog and the *inside* of the crate, then think about where the door will open at home. A folding wire crate is practical for visibility and storage, but a nervous escape artist or a dog needing an airline-approved travel kennel may require a very different enclosure. I would never call a crate indestructible based on a listing.
The compact ZOMISIA is my first comparison for a dog that fits its interior and a home that values folding storage. Precision Pet adds door-placement flexibility, and the 42-inch wire options serve larger dogs. I would reject every one of them if the dog cannot stand and turn comfortably or the latch design does not suit its behavior.

01 — ZOMISIA
Best compact folding choiceZOMISIA 28-Inch Collapsible Crate
ZOMISIA is the first crate I would measure for a dog that comfortably fits a 28-inch interior and a home that needs to fold the crate away. Its collapsible format makes storage easier than a permanent enclosure.
It leads only for that smaller-dog use. Precision’s two doors give more placement options, while the 42-inch crates below suit much larger dogs. Check latches and tray access before choosing convenience over fit.

Your dog needs a larger interior.
What I like
+Fold-away 28-inch format.
What to weigh
−Size and latch suitability.
02 — PRECISION PET
Best two-door placement flexibilityPrecision Pet Two-Door Wire Crate
Two doors help when a crate must sit beside a sofa or wall and one entrance would be blocked. Precision Pet lists a 24-by-18-by-19-inch size and a five-point locking arrangement.
It is second because that specific size is restrictive; the extra door does not make it fit a medium dog. Measure interior turning room and compare with ZOMISIA’s larger 28-inch format.

Your dog cannot stand and turn inside.
What I like
+Two-door placement options.
What to weigh
−Small listed dimensions.
03 — DUMOS
Best 42-inch foldable optionDUMOS 42-Inch Wire Crate
DUMOS moves the choice into 42-inch territory for a larger dog, while retaining folding storage. A big crate is useful only if the room can accommodate both the frame and its open door.
I put it third because size comes before brand on this list. Compare the double-door Aidoly and FDW on latch access and tray cleaning once you know 42 inches is right.

Your dog needs a smaller enclosed space.
What I like
+Large folding frame.
What to weigh
−Door clearance and fit.
04 — Aidoly
Best alternate large double-doorAidoly 42-Inch Crate
Aidoly offers another 42-inch folding wire design with two doors. That second entrance can make it easier to place a large crate without blocking a walkway.
It ranks fourth because DUMOS already covers the basic large-folding role. I would choose Aidoly only if the exact latch, tray and door layout fit the home better.

You need a travel-approved rigid kennel.
What I like
+Two entrances in a large frame.
What to weigh
−Substantial overlap with DUMOS.
05 — FDW
Best basic large wire alternativeFDW 42-Inch Crate
FDW is a further 42-inch double-door wire choice if the other large crates are unavailable or priced poorly. The right dog fit and secure closures matter more than the brand printed on the carton.
It closes the list because its role overlaps DUMOS and Aidoly. Inspect the tray, door latches and the dog’s interior clearance before treating the lowest price as the best value.

Good questions
FAQ — Dog Crates
01How do I size a dog crate?+
Measure your individual dog standing and lying down, then compare interior height and length with the maker’s guidance. Exterior dimensions alone can mislead.
02Is a folding wire crate suitable for airline travel?+
Airline rules vary and many require a specific rigid kennel. Check the carrier’s current live-animal requirements before buying a travel crate.
The short answer
Start with the ZOMISIA 28-Inch Collapsible Crate.
I recommend it for smaller dogs in space-conscious homes. Choose something else if your dog needs a larger interior.
